ACT updates its occupation list effective 3 May 2021

The ACT governments state that:

Greetings from Canberra

The focus on 491 invitations will continue until the pro rata allocation is equal.   The refusal rate is creeping up to 20% so please advise your clients that they must have proof of their eligibility, especially if they have recently moved to Canberra.  The Statutory Declaration is also causing issues – make sure it includes ’position title, location of employment, position description / duties, salary (or hourly rate) and commencement date’. Any concerns about genuine employment are referred to Home Affairs. We will also refer on any documents that are not considered genuine.

ACT Critical Skills List May 2021

The ACT Critical Skills List May 2021 will come into effect 3 May 2021.  I have attached a comparison between the January 2021 and May 2021 Lists, showing occupations retained, added and removed.

The ACT Nomination Guidelines May 2021 and ACT Critical Skills List May 2021 will be published on the website today.

2020-21 Ranking and selection process

  • From 3 May 2021, only Matrix with a nominated occupation on the ACT Critical Skills List January May 2021 will be selected and, if ranked, invited to apply for ACT nomination.
  • If your clients nominated occupation was removed from the ACT Critical Skills List May 2021, their Matrix will NOT be selected and will automatically lapse after six months.
  • 457 / 482 visa holders who have a Matrix score of 60 plus points will be invited to apply for ACT nomination.

Overseas applicants. The Canberra Matrix remains closed to overseas applicants.

Only one ACT Nomination place

The guidelines have been updated to add further clarity around the one nomination place only.

We will only offer one nomination place per applicant. A new SkillSelect EOI will NOT be confirmed if you made an error, decided not to apply, or are S48 barred from applying for the visa onshore.

You must wait at least six months, and meet the eligibility criteria, before you can complete a new Canberra Matrix. You must contact us and explain the reason why you want to reapply for ACT nomination before you complete a new Canberra Matrix.  You must attach proof that you did not lodge the 491 / 190 visa application with Home Affairs.
